OVERVIEW

The programme focuses on building clearer messaging, stronger delivery, and greater confidence when speaking to colleagues, students, and stakeholders. Using a practical, workplace-based approach with guided practice and feedback, participants will strengthen professional communication, active listening and questioning techniques, improve email and meeting communication, and learn how to handle feedback and challenging conversations more effectively. The overall outcome is improved communication quality, smoother collaboration, and more confident presentations across teams.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The programme is to help participants to:

  • Acquire presentation skills, techniques and apply relevant delivery styles to suit the audience;
  • Speak and present in front of an audience in a confident and professional manner;
  • Overcome fears by applying stage management techniques; and
  • Handle questions and manage difficult audience.

 

 COURSE OUTLINE

Day 1 — Foundations, Structure & Preparation

Module 1: Bringing Out the Best in You

  • The winning mindset (confidence, growth mindset, presence)
  • Qualities of a good speaker/presenter
  • Common pitfalls to avoid
  • Self-assessment (strengths, gaps, personal action goals)

Activity (Optional): 5-minute individual intro + quick feedback (baseline)

Module 2: Speaking in Public

  • What is public speaking?
  • Types of public speaking (informative, persuasive, briefing, updates, pitches)
  • The power of public speaking (influence, clarity, credibility)
  • The speech communication process (speaker–message–audience–channel–feedback)
  • Practical warm-up exercises (voice, breathing, articulation)

Module 3: 4Ps of Public Speaking

  • Preparation (planning, rehearsal, confidence-building)
  • Purpose (goal, desired audience outcome)
  • People (audience profiling: needs, expectations, level)
  • Performance (delivery basics: pacing, energy, presence)

Module 4: Preparation Deep Dive

  • What? Why? When? Where? Who? (5W foundation for clarity)
  • Before / During / After checklist (planning to follow-up)
  • The psychology of the audience (attention span, trust, engagement triggers)

Module 5: Planning Your Presentation

  • Gathering materials (facts, examples, data)
  • Organising / layout (clear flow, signposting)
  • Opening statements (hook + objective)
  • Body / content (main points, proof, transitions)
  • Closing statements (summary + call-to-action)
  • Presentation tools (what to use and when)
  • Presentation kit (what to bring / backup plan)
  • Supporting materials (handouts, notes, references)

End of Day 1 Output: Draft presentation structure + opening & closing script.

 

 

Day 2 — Delivery, Visuals, Stage Handling & Performance

Module 6: Practice! Practice! Practice!

  • Understanding fear (why it happens)
  • Overcoming nervousness (breathing, posture, rehearsal routines, mental reset)
  • Confidence drills (voice projection, pacing, pausing, eye contact)

Module 7: Presenting with Visual Aids & Equipment

  • Using visual aids & equipment effectively (projector, mic, clicker)
  • Designing PowerPoint slides (simple, clean, audience-first)
  • Layout principles (alignment, spacing, readability)
  • Rule of 6 (keep slides light and readable)

Module 8: Interpersonal & Social Skills for Presenters

  • Personal appearance (professional presence)
  • The speaker’s voice (tone, pace, clarity, emphasis)
  • Gestures & body actions (controlled movement, purposeful gestures)
  • Guidelines for ethical speaking (accuracy, respect, confidentiality)

Module 9: Stage Management

  • The stage (movement zones, positioning, audience scanning)
  • Handling difficult audience & situations (interruptions, objections, distractions)
  • Handling questions (bridging, clarifying, answering with structure)

Module 10: Let’s Do It! (Performance & Feedback)

  • 5-minute individual presentation (final delivery)
  • Video recording (optional, if agreed)
  • Review / feedback (strengths + improvement points + personal action plan)

End of Day 2 Output: Final presentation performance + personalised improvement checklist.
